About Me
-
Describe Yourself:I'm a reporter for THE NEW YORK TIMES, covering global environmental issues and, once in a sad while, calamities (9/11, Hurricane Katrina, the Asian tsunami). I created the paper's Dot Earth blog (nytimes.com/dotearth) and I'm also an author of books on the AMAZON, GLOBAL WARMING, and the NORTH POLE. In spare moments, I'm a performing songwriter and part of a fun retro-rootsy band called UNCLE WADE (www.myspace.com/unclewade). I live in New York's Hudson River Valley with my wife (a middle-school science teacher) and two sons (7 and 15). My passions are music, family, and the truth.
You can follow my work on the blog and at www.nytimes.com/revkin

Kristy Muysson, Jan 21, 2009, 7:52PM ESTHi,
My son Matthew is wondering about a passage quoted in his spelling textbook. It is credited to you, from "A Car with a Mind of Its Own". He is trying to find the book because he thinks it sounds interesting. We are having no luck finding it on Amazon and no Google hits either on the title. I'm puzzled - was it an article you wrote, perhaps, thus the difficulty finding any further information?
Any insight you can provide would be helpful (and appreciated by Matt)!
Thanks, Kristy Muysson -
Laura Beaudry, Jan 7, 2009, 3:36PM ESTHi Andrew - I thought you would be interested in philanthropic consultancy LBG Associates' new research study, The Green Effect: How Community Involvement Is Embracing Environmentalism. This report redefines what it means to be "green," and presents a new environmental performance index for companies that includes both operational and community involvement criteria.
This research reveals not only the top environmental trends and practices among 51 of today's leading corporations (such as IBM, Intel, Ben & Jerry's, Citi, Toyota, LL Bean, Seventh Generation, Patagonia, Con Edison, and Ford, to name just a few), but also includes a self-diagnostic tool that helps determine if a company is a Peridot (becoming green); a Jade (green in many business and community involvement practices); or an Emerald (extremely green).
Robert Johnson, President of the Wildlife Habitat Council, cites The Green Effect extensively in his most recent President's message at this link:
